After the break-up of Squirrel Nut Zippers, Mathus became a successful solo singer-songwriter in his own right, working closely with Buddy Guy, which included lending his talents to Guy's Grammy Award-winning album  Blues Singer. Mathus has also recorded ten albums and has been a member of his new band, the Tri-State Coalition since 2011.
