This Saturday, Browngrass is Back for its Third Year!
In 2010, local musician and long time WNKU fan, David Rhodes Brown, dropped by the station to let us know he was going to throw a big party with dozens of local bands, sell tickets, and donate the money to WNKU.
We agreed it was a fine idea and the Browngrass Music Festival was soon born. The first edition took place at the Southgate House in Newport and nearly sold out. It drew enough of a crowd that David and his wife, Bobbi, decided they could pull the event off as an outdoor festival.
And thus in 2011, close to 1000 people headed down river to the quaint yet world-famous community of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky for the 2nd annual Browngrass Festival. Artists from around town and around the country participated, including a then little known up and comer by the name of Lydia Loveless. We've been playing her CD ever since and the rest of the country has been taking notice, as well.
This year, 16 acts are currently booked, including acts from as far as Austin, TX and Niagara Falls, NY. Check out the schedule, plan a day in beautiful Rabbit Hash, and remember, it's for a great cause!
