If you want to contribute to The American Red Cross to help tornado victims, the agency wants you to send money, rather than items. The Red Cross website has a button you can click to make a monetary donation. The agency doesn't have the resources or personnel to handle food, used clothing or shoes. If you wish to donate such items, The Red Cross recommends that you contact United Way 211, local community centers or The Salvation Army. The Red cross also says people can let loved ones know they're okay by registering on its Safe and Well website, where they can also update their status on Facebook or Twitter.
