Move over Rocktober...November is more Notable for Live Music.

Everyone knows that November has 30 days.

What’s surprising about the month this year is that more than 25 top-notch performers will visit Greater Cincinnati.

It begins Thursday when Justin Townes Earle and Tift Merritt take over the Taft Theatre Ballroom and local heroes Walk the Moon headline the Madison Theater. Between then and Tim O’Brien’s Nov. 29 gig at the 20th Century, there is only one stretch of more than three days when a WNKU favorite won’t grace a local stage.

In reality, quantity is only the third best thing about the month, following quality and diversity.

For those who like to rock, the Waco Brothers, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, James McMurtry, Delta Spirit, Chris Isaak, the Psychodots and Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band are happy to oblige.

Are you intrigued by female singer-songwriters? In addition to Merritt, the slate includes Sharon Van Etten, Aimee Mann, Lucy Wainwright Roche, Mary Black and a rare appearance by Iris Dement.

Guitar virtuosos Charlie Hunter and Joe Bonamassa will dazzle with their speed and dexterity, and blues singer Ruthie Foster will tingle spines.

Mainstream country fans will fill the Bank of Kentucky Center for Alan Jackson, while Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jorma Kaukonen returns to the 20th Century for the second time this year in a solo show. The Carolina Chocolate Drops, who opened for Dave Matthews at Riverbend over the summer, will perform in the intimate setting of Miami University Hamilton’s Parrish Auditorium.

And in what might be the most poignant performance of the month, Glen Campbell, who is battling early onset dementia, brings his Goodbye Tour to the Taft.

So pick a date, almost any date, and enjoy the show. A month like this might not come again for a while.
