Kentucky Farming Population Aging
By Story by Sara Wittmeyer
Highland Heights, KY – Kentucky Farmers are getting older. The latest U.S. Census shows the average age is 55, up from 52 in 1987. The problem, officials say, is farming is not attractive to young people. Often they can get jobs that require less work but pay more. Lawmakers and local farmers are responding to the trend.
