Eleni Mandell to play Studio 89 on September 24
Eleni Mandell has been making records since 2000. Growing up in Los Angeles in the 1980s, Mandell attended mostly punk and underground rock shows but was inspired as a young songwriter by Tom Waits, X, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Randy Newman.
EMandell's 8th full-length release, I Can See the Future (2012), was her first album to be licensed by Yep Roc. Produced by Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, The Strokes, White Stripes), guest appearances include drummer Joey Waronker (Beck, Atoms for Peace), saxophonist Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), a duet with Benji Hughes, backing vocals throughout by Becky Stark and Inara George (The Living Sisters), and string/horn arrangements by Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes).
Eleni will be performing in support of Nick Lowe at the 20th Century Theater next Tuesday, but has kindly agreed to entertain WNKU members at the next Studio 89 on Monday night.
You can sign up to be a part of the studio audience. Attendees will be selected at random and notified on Friday. If you do not hear from us by the end of the day Friday, your name was not selected.
