Earth Calendar for May 21st and May 22nd
Summer kicks off with the 9th annual Paddlefest Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo at Coney Island on Friday, June 20th from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.
Kids Expo brings together area organizations for the largest outdoor youth environmental education program and the largest outdoor water safety and environmental education program in the Midwest. The Expo is a unique opportunity to enhance the interest of children in the outdoor world while promoting their academic achievement in science, technology, math and engineering. With over 50 interactive stations and hands-on activities, the event is designed to learn through by fun by engaging, educating and entertaining while learning what they can do to protect and enjoy the environment.
The Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo will host their very own "Get Fit Don’t Sit" program, equipping visitors with pedometers and educational training on how to use them. Kids will learn that every step counts to fight childhood obesity and to help live a healthy lifestyle. To support this program there will a Discovery Trail–an interactive marked trail that will lead visitors through Expo activities and challenge them to see how far they can walk and how many steps it takes to make a quarter mile, half mile, three quarter mile and mile. The day features dozens of hands-on activities, exhibits and presentations to engage children’s interest in the natural world around them. The Kids Expo is free & open to the public. Coney Island admission is not required to enter the Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo. More information online.
On Our Calendar: Join others at the Miami Whitewater Forest Harbor for some real family fun! Learn all about the natural world through games and hands-on activity stations. Kids can make crafts and get their faces painted. Bring the whole family to participate in a scavenger hunt for prizes, May 24th noon – 4:00 pm. Some activities will have a small fee.
