Earth Calendar for May 15th and May 16th

While some exposure to sunlight can be enjoyable, too much can be dangerous.

Overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun can result in painful sunburn. It can also lead to more serious health problems, including skin cancer, premature aging of the skin, cataracts and other eye damage, and immune system suppression. Children are particularly at risk. Most people are not aware that skin cancer, while largely preventable, is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than one million cases are reported annually. If you are a camp counselor, scout troop leader, lifeguard, or in another profession where you work with youth outdoors, the EPA provides a new award winning online sun safety certification program so you can be sure you’re being SunWise. The interactive training provides users with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to instill life-long sun-safe behaviors in the youth in their care. If you would like more information about the training resource certification please email SunWise ( with the subject line "Sun safety tutorial."

This will be a day spent recognizing the green grass in our backyards and celebrating the community which we live in. Enjoy a day of food, fun and music at Grailville, Saturday, May 25th (Memorial Day weekend) from noon to 5:00 pm. For more information visit the website.
