Earth Calendar for March 13th and March 14th
Kenton County Parks & Recreation are looking for volunteers to help Reforest Northern Kentucky 2013.
A lot of helpers will be needed on Saturday, March 23 at Big Bone Lick State Historic Site in Union Ky. to help plant trees ~ LOTS of trees! The annual reforestation event is sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Urban Forestry Council, among many others. Volunteers will be planting trees to restore open areas back to native forest, which will create a habitat for wildlife, help to improve air and water quality, prevent soil erosion, and reduce maintenance costs. There are a lot of trees to plant so bring your friends, family members, and shovels ~ and dig in! The first 200 volunteers will receive free ‘Can You Dig It?’ t-shirts! Refreshments will be provided for all volunteers. Onsite registration will begin at 9:30 am and you’ll be done by 1:00 pm. Staff will demonstrate ‘How to Plant a Tree’ and group leaders will demonstrate and oversee tree planting by volunteers. And, when the day is done, each volunteer will receive a tree seedling to plant at home. The Reforest Northern Kentucky 2013 tree planting will take place at Big Bone Lick State Historic Site. Register online at the website.
