Earth Calendar for July 10th and July 11th
This summer, Cincinnati’s Krohn Conservatory will present a breakthrough summer show, Let It Grow, that highlights and demonstrates four new cutting edge, sustainable gardening and food production techniques.
The show will run from July 9th through August 25th, from 10:00 am-5:00 pm, Tuesday through Sunday. These four new systems, once only used commercially, are now available for home, business and restaurant use and can save gardeners significant space, energy, water resources and money. In addition to showcasing the revolutionary gardening systems, the Krohn Conservatory will also feature a series of "how-to" lectures from regional experts. More details at the website.
On Our Calendar: The Civic Garden Center of Cincinnati presents Permaculture Series: The Permaculture Yard. Edible landscaping is building up quite a buzz in the gardening community these days. Food in our yards? What a great idea! Edible forest gardening takes this concept a step further by mimicking the structure and functions of healthy forest ecosystems to add natural resilience, stability and abundance into our edible landscapes. Visit a residential permaculture site in its 3rd year of development. See two types of rain harvesting techniques, an edible landscape that includes various fruit trees, berry bushes, and vegetables, and many perennial plantings that both support the health of the soil and a diversity of birds, bees, and butterflies. Hear stories about how the site has been incorporated into a community-building ethic. Saturday July 20th 10:00 am – Noon.
