Earth Calendar for February 21st and February 22nd

Feb 21, 2014

Turner Farm is offering a Soil and Compost Series that is open to the public.  This garden series of basic gardening classes will leave you feeling energized to start your own backyard garden.

The classes are geared for both those who are new to gardening and those who would like to refresh their knowledge.  Get your soil tested and have the tests explained to you, along with how to manage your soil for optimum health. Holly Holcomb from the Hamilton County Sewer and Water Conservation District will start by exploring the type of information a soil test can provide and will take a sample that you’ve brought to the class to be tested. In the second part, she’ll bring back your test results and help you work through what you may need to do to improve your soil. She’ll discuss the organic, chemical, and physical qualities of soil, the importance of calcium, iron, and magnesium in the soil, as well as the benefits of using composting and cover crops.
Part 1: Wednesday, March 12th, 6:30-8PM
Part 2: Wednesday, April 9th, 6:30-8PM
