Earth Calendar for February 19th and February 20th
Clermont Soil & Water Conservation will be offering tree and brush seedlings, a few perennials and cover crop seed at discounted prices during their annual plant sale.
Rain barrels are also being sold. The conservation plant sale allows property owners to create small areas of reforestation, wildlife enhancement or additions to home landscaping. Selections this year focus on plants native to Ohio and tree species that are not host to the Asian Longhorned Beetle. The featured tree is the Black Gum, also known as Black Tupelo or Sour Gum. This Ohio native is especially known for its glossy green summer leaves and outstanding scarlet fall colors. The Black Gum produces dark blue fruits that are consumed by over 30 species of birds.
An order form will soon be available at the website. The District is accepting orders through April 4th. Plants may be picked up on April 26th, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Clermont County Fairgrounds in Owensville. There will not be additional trees or shrubs for sale on April 26th. For more information, contact the Clermont Soil & Water Conservation District at (513) 732-7075, ext. 2.
On Our Calendar: Celebrate the awakening of the trees and a harbinger of warmer weather at Maple Sugar Days at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve on Saturday and Sunday, February 22nd and 23rd, from noon to 5 p.m. More information at the website.
