Earth Calendar for August 27th and August 28th

Aug 27, 2012

The Kentucky Conservation program began from a nationally increased awareness of the severe erosion problems on farmland. The dust bowl days of the 1930's convinced the U.S. Congress of the need for a government conservation agency with federal funding to help conserve our natural resources and maintain our ability to feed ourselves as a nation.  The Conservation District makes technical and financial help available to reduce soil erosion, prevent water pollution, and maintain and improve the quality and productivity of our farmlands, forests, and other natural resources. Assistance is available to everyone in dealing with natural resources issues, including farmers, homeowners, businesses, schools, organizations, agencies, cities and local governments.  The Boone County Conservation District invites you to help celebrate 70 years of service to the community. An open house will be held on Thursday, September 13th from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Boone County Public Library, 1786 Burlington Pike, Burlington. There will be historical displays about the conservation district and you can visit with district supervisors and staff about their current work. Enjoy some anniversary cake and refreshments and relax and listen to Hayloft, a local bluegrass band. Everyone is welcome. For information, call (859)-586-7903 or e-mail
