Earth Calendar for August 17th and August 18th
Thanks to a grant received from Duke Energy and the Cincinnati Parks Foundation, 550 trees will be distributed free of charge to residents and property owners within the city of Cincinnati. The program’s goal is to supplement the city’s urban forest by providing trees to plant on private property, near the street where there is not enough space in the public right-of-way to plant a tree. To qualify for a free tree, the planting location must be within the City of Cincinnati limits, must be visible from the street, and must not conflict with utilities. Seven different species of trees will be available. The trees usually come in 5-gallon containers and are 6 – 8 feet tall. Urban Forestry staff will review all applications and inspect proposed planting sites to determine if requests meet the ReLeaf program guidelines. Approved applicants will receive a confirmation notice and instructions as to where they can pick up their tree in mid-October. Applications are processed on a first-come first served basis. For more application information call (513) 861-9070 ext. 21.
