CityBeat Announces 2014 CEA Nominees

Dec 11, 2013

CityBeat, Cincinnati's alternative weekly paper, announced today the nominations for the 17th Annual Cincinnati Entertainment Awards (CEAs).  Dozens of local music experts were tapped for the nominations.

CityBeat points out that this year’s class of nominees includes several artists receiving their first CEA nomination.  They include Lantana (Hip Hop/Artist of the Year),  Tweens (Punk/Pop, New Artist of the Year), Tana Matz (Country),  Elementree Livity Project (World Music/Reggae),  Moonbow (Metal/Hard Rock), Austin Livingood (Singer/Songwriter), Archer’s Paradox (Indie/Alternative), Black Pharaoh (R&B/Funk/Soul) and ambitious, conceptual songwriter Allan Pray (Album of the Year).  Last year’s New Artist of the Year winner, DAAP Girls, secured a record 5 nominations overall this year in the Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Indie/Alternative, Best Live Act and Best Music Video categories.

The "critical achievement" categories of Album of the Year, New Artist of the Year and Artist of the Year will be determined by the CEA nominating committee, but Greater Cincinnati music fans will determine the winners of all other categories via online voting at  Voting ends at noon on Friday, December 13.

As technology has improved and high-quality video equipment and software have become more available, Cincinnati has seen a wave of well-produced music videos from local artists.  A "Best Music Video" category has been added to the CEA's as a result.  Clips from 10 videos will be posted on the site for online voting.

The Cincinnati Entertainment Awards (CEAs), presented by Dewey’s Pizza with support from WNKU, returns for its 17th year on Jan. 26 at Covington’s Madison Theater.   Tickets will go on sale Friday, December 20 with proceeds benefiting the Greater Cincinnati USA Music Heritage Foundation.
