Bockfest Turns 21
On the first weekend in March, Bockfest will finally turn 21. As with any 21st birthday, the celebration will hold unlimited potential.
Of course, many aren't waiting for the official Bockfest weekend in March. Hundreds have already started celebrating what has become in recent years, the Season of Bockfest. The season began with the annual Beefsteak Club fundraiser at the Christian Moerlein Brewery in Over The Rhine - home of Bockfest Hall. Soon after, the preliminary rounds of the 2013 Little Kings Sausage Queen pageant got underway. Throughout the month of February, dozens of contestants will have competed in six rounds at six different locations, all in hopes of being crowned Sausage Queen of Bockfest.
Visit www.bockfest.com for a list of Official Sausage Queen venues.
On Friday, March 1st, Bockfest weekend is ushered in with one of Cincinnati's most unique parades, and Cincinnati's only parade to be led by a goat. In fact, there are several goats in the Bockfest Parade, as well as Bocking Dogs, monks, mustard enthusiasts, and the fearsome Whip Wench. The parade concludes with the entire cast of characters bottlenecking in Bockfest Hall a la the Faber College Marching Band to observe the Blessing of the Bock and the Mayor's Proclamation. The party continues late into the evening at Bockfest Hall with a few thousand revelers overflowing into comfortable neighborhood bars throughout Over the Rhine.
The festivities continue on Saturday, March 2nd. The day officially begins with WNKU's Real Mary Peale broadcasting live from Bockfest Hall from noon to 4pm. Stop by and meet Mary Peale in person, or tune in to WNKU to listen live. Mary will be playing all of the incredible music you expect to hear with, perhaps, some underlying themes. She'll also visit with some of Bockfest's more colorful characters.
Later that evening, the bell rings for the final round of the 2013 Little Kings Sausage Queen pageant, upon completion of which, the new Sausage Queen of Bockfest will be crowned. Afterwards, the Queen's subjects again party late into the evening at Bockfest Hall with a few thousand revelers overflowing into comfortable neighborhood bars throughout Over the Rhine.
So, put it on the calendar and join WNKU as we celebrate Bockfest 2013. And, if you can't be there in person, tune in to the Real Mary Peale Show on Saturday, March 2nd from noon until 4 for great music and a listen in on what goes on during a typical Bockfest weekend.
