Steve has been a public radio news reporter in the Cincinnati area for three decades. He began with WGUC, then WVXU, and in 2005, came to WNKU. Steve covers breaking news, writes WNKU’s local afternoon newscasts and produces feature-length interviews and other feature stories that are heard each weekday. Steve also serves as WNKU’s News Assignment Editor. Steve has written and produced news stories and features for National Public Radio, the worldwide broadcasts of Voice of America, Ohio Public Radio, and Monitor Radio.

Tree Climbing for Recreation

You may not know it, but tree climbing is an actual sport; and one of the largest recreational tree climbing companies in the  world is located in Alexandria, Kentucky. The company, called EarthJoy Tree Adventures, is the subject of an article in the April issue of Cincinnati Magazine. WNKU's Steve Hirschberg talked with Shelly Byrne. Creator of Mr. Clean Character for P&G Dies at 92

Richard Black, the artist who created the Mr. Clean character for Procter & Gamble, has died in Dayton, Ohio at the age of 92. The Philadelphia  native opened his own studio in 1950 and was a longtime educator. WNKU's Steve Hirschberg talked with P&G's Senior Archivist Greg McCoy about the artist and the history of Mr. Clean.

Portsmouth Enters America in Bloom Program

Tuesday, March 18, at 6:00 pm in the Portsmouth Public Library, the organization called Main Street Portsmouth will hold a public meeting to talk about the city's entry into the America in Bloom program.  Executive Director Sarah Surina hopes to garner suggestions and get volunteers to sign up for the beautification effort. Social Services, KY Schools Partner for Training on Child Protection

About a hundred Kentucky education professionals are attending a workshop today in Lexington.  They're working with the state's social services agency to learn how to keep children safer. Teresa James,  Commissioner of the Department of Community-Based Services in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, tells WNKU's Steve Hirschberg the problem of abused and neglected children is a serious one in Kentucky.
