Steve has been a public radio news reporter in the Cincinnati area for three decades. He began with WGUC, then WVXU, and in 2005, came to WNKU. Steve covers breaking news, writes WNKU’s local afternoon newscasts and produces feature-length interviews and other feature stories that are heard each weekday. Steve also serves as WNKU’s News Assignment Editor. Steve has written and produced news stories and features for National Public Radio, the worldwide broadcasts of Voice of America, Ohio Public Radio, and Monitor Radio.

Christ Hospital Tests Surgical Treatment for High Blood Pressure

The Christ Hospital says it's the first medical center in the Cincinnati region to test a new surgical treatment for high blood pressure.  The hospital is also recruiting new patients to take part in the surgical trial.  Dr. Eugene Chung is Director of Outcomes at The Christ Hospital's Heart and Vascular Center. He tells WNKU's Steve Hirschberg that high blood pressure is an almost universal problem, especially as we age. He says, in many patients, it's very difficult to control.

Coca Cola Memorabilia Museum in KY Closes, Auctions Off Collection

In Elizabethtown, Kentucky, a family that owned a Coca Cola bottling franchise established a Coca Cola Memorabilia Museum. FEMA and SBA Helping Kentucky Tornado Victims

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says more than four thousand Kentuckians who suffered in the recent storms and tornadoes have registered with FEMA for assistance. The agency also says it has approved more than $ 7 million for storm survivors in the state's 21-county disaster area. WNKU's Steve Hirschberg talked with FEMA spokeswoman Renee Bafalis and with Small Business Administration spokesman John Oliver Frederick, both of whom visited our studios on Friday. Bafalis says FEMA has opened nine disaster recovery centers in Kentucky.
