John Patrick

Host / Music Director

I was born and raised in Peru, Indiana, along with musician Cole Porter and basketball player Kyle Macy, but not at the same time. They were a bit older. Cole’s niece was in love with me in the 1st grade. Little did I know, she was one of the heirs to his publishing fortune, or I might have shown more interest. Hind sight is 20/20, especially in the 1st grade.

I didn’t know what I wanted to do after high school and today I’m still not sure. I started in radio in Peru, right out of high school in 1983. I spent most of the late '80s and early '90s in the world’s greatest college town, Bloomington, Indiana, which has an incredible local music scene. I was Music Director at WTTS during this time, back when they were a great new Triple A station.

I’ve done just about every job in radio, even Sales and Management, which are ok, but being able to play great music every day is best. I think it’s safe to say that no one has had more luck or more fun than me.

There’s always more than one great song on a album!

Thanks for listening to WNKU.

It's the 9th Annual Heads Up Pumpkin Chuck from noon until 4pm. at Stanberry Park in Mount Washington.  Meet WNKU personalities while watching pumpkins smash.    Bring your gently used pumpkin, and for a small donation, someone will load it up in a 20 foot tall trebuchet and fling it down the hillside into a pile of gooey pumpkin splatter.  Yes.  It's every bit as fun as it sounds.

See you at Stanbery Park!

WNKU's Music Director & Afternoon host, John Patrick, has been training for weeks with a regular regiment of exercise and a steady diet of healthy vegetables.  He's now set to squash the competition at the 2nd annual go Vibrant Veggie Race - a kick off event for the 36th Annual Taste of Cincinnati.

"My mom always told me two things - 'eat your vegetables,' and 'don't play with your food,'" said Patrick.  "I'm setting out to prove you can do both and be a champion."

The Hold Steady recently released their 6th album, Teeth Dreams, and will be at Bogart's tonight with Deer Tick.  The Hold Steady put on one of the better live shows you'll see, but before they take the stage tonight at Bogarts, they'll be in the studio with John Patrick sometime in the 1 o'clock hour.  Tell your friends and stay tuned!  In the
