Jean Kinney is a local author whose writing career was inspired by a story she heard on NPR twenty years ago. Jean is still an avid listener of public radio and a big fan, in particular, of WNKU's Kathy Costello and Katie Laur. Recently, Jean wrote a blog about her long-time listening relationship with Katie and her program, Music From the Hills of Home, as well as why she thinks Katie is an NLT.
Deep within the catacombs of the historic Taft Theatre lies a cavernous ballroom, heretofore unseen by the average theater-goer. Until this year, most people weren't even aware such a room existed (rumor has it there is even a shooting range just behind one of the doors within the ballroom).
In 2010, local musician and long time WNKU fan, David Rhodes Brown, dropped by the station to let us know he was going to throw a big party with dozens of local bands, sell tickets, and donate the money to WNKU.
Forecastle returns to Louisville's Waterfront Park July 13-15 to celebrate it's 10th year with a lineup that includes Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Neko Case, Walk the Moon, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Andrew Bird, and Justin Townes Earle just to name a few. And, WNKU is giving away three pairs of weekend passes!
The inaugural Bunbury Music Festival takes place July 13th - 15th at Sawyer Point and Yeatman's Cove. Bunbury is the brain child of entrepreneur, Bill Donabedian, who's credits include co-founding the Midpoint Music Festival and serving as Fountain Square's first VP of Event Production (so he knows a thing or two about putting on a good show).
Our friends at Production Simple in Louisville have just announced they are bringing Mumford & Sons along with special guest, Dawes, to the Great Lawn at Louisville's Waterfront Park on August 13th. This will be the only show in the Midwest with this lineup!
Yesterday, Cincinnati's Walk the Moon released their self-titled major-label debut. Of course, lots of folks have been taking notice of this band for at least the last 18 months.
We've said it before and we'll say it again. WNKU listeners are the absolute best! Thanks to everyone who made a contribution during our fiscal year-end campaign. We really appreciate all of the support you've shown this station.
